History

From a very young age I knew my purpose in life was to help others. I felt the world was a good place to be, but wanted to make it even better. I developed a passion for helping people not only find meaning in their lives, but also to overcome challenges so they can reach their full potential. I believe there is great power in the therapist/client relationship, and that people often develop into the best version of themselves when they are truly seen and heard.

As a therapist I help clients identify and move through barriers to living their best life, and seek to provide a non-judgmental safe space for sharing and growth. Although grief, confusion, and trauma can be part of our human experience, it is my goal to assist people in accessing the freedom and joy that is waiting on the other side.

Background

I moved to South Carolina after college to attend graduate school and complete an internship at Moncrief Hospital on Fort Jackson. After earning a Master of Social Work degree I worked with Hospice for several years before direct commissioning into the South Carolina Army National Guard.

Soon after I joined the Guard, I accepted a full-time position as the State Behavioral Health Officer. My primary focus was the development and oversight of the state's Behavioral Health program. During this time I had the opportunity to work with Service Members at various points in their careers, and while they were experiencing a variety of concerns. Some of these included PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, difficulty adjusting to life after a deployment, and coping with multiple situational stressors. While I thoroughly enjoyed serving in this capacity, I felt I could be more effective working with individuals in a therapeutic setting.

I specialize in grief and loss, anxiety, end of life decisions, trauma, chronic illness, and life transitions. Because I am a believer in the mind/body connection, I often utilize Mindfulness techniques in my work with clients. Other modalities include EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Therapy. I feel honored to play even small part in someone's healing journey.
